Year end pay cheques were sent in the mail on Monday, July 18th. Everyone should get their cheque this week.
If you want to see the details behind your pay cheque, you can select Payments -> Paysheets in Arbiter.
A special thanks also to Mark Taylor for doing an awesome job finding umpires for these playoffs. We covered many more games this year than we typically would cover. The playoffs are especially challenging as diamonds are not known until the last minute for earlier games.
We couldn’t have covered all of these games without him! Make sure to thank him for his hard work next time you see him at the diamonds!

Round 1 cheques have been handed out in person to those I have seen. All others have been notified by e-mail as of today that their cheque is en-route or hand-delivered.

The final payment run will be made on or around July 14th when the final CMSUA playoff game is done.
Thanks again for your hard work on the diamonds!

New! Discussion area – Open to public – http://www.cmsua.ca/discussionApril 26, 2016 at 11:50 am in reply to: Can I get my assignments via Text Message instead of E-mail #75695Last year we entertained the idea to pay for “Connected” which allows SMS text notifications in addition to all the other features listed in the first post. The survey results were pretty clear this was not something all umpires needed or wanted. Each umpire is still able to individually subscribe to this feature.
If you don’t check your e-mail regularly, you can set up your phone. The cost is $7.95/year. Umpire needs to sign into Arbiter and use the “Connected” menu item to set-up
Cheers
Excellent point Keith. The same goes for most locations. Try to pick a spot to get changed/meet your mentor (if applicable) away from the main parking lot to avoid any potential issues with players and coaches.
If you are unsure where to meet up, you can contact your Mentor by phone or e-mail. The list of umpires is available in Arbiter by selecting “Lists”.
It’s 2016 Season. All CMSUA officials should review the above best practices about Assigning. It is very important that everyone work together.
Topic moved from Private Executive Area to Public area. We need more input and involvement from other CMSUA members. Recruitment can’t be left to 1 or 2 people in the association, it is way too important..
Another “idea” is we should invest in a large banner for the Umpire Changing area, with some recruiting info on it.
Yes, we don’t want an open door for players/coaches to come bitch. [for that matter, how many coaches would want to risk being outnumbered and not in their comfort zone. If they are that ticked, no sign is going to stop them]
What would this sign say? Want it nice and large, and to the point. Basically open the door to anyone who wants “talk to us” about being a potential umpire.
Thoughts?
A reminder to all Executive that with the season starting shortly, it is important to “seed/feed” the discussion forum with useful content. Please remember which topics you are responsible for, and add something new in the coming weeks.
Thanks
Ian: I’ve seen you do this at our CMSUA games, and I agree it definitely helps keep the game going. I suggest umpires only do this for younger ages, and absolutely don’t do this at any Provincial level or higher ball when you are being evaluated.
Hey Janice. Thanks for the question. As far as I know there is no rule about having a knee on the ground in the rulebook. It is illegal to have a foot completely outside the box (not the case here).
What could be illegal is whether the knee is kneeling on and touching the plate when the ball is touched. I’m not sure… Thoughts??
We do allow U10-U14 teams to send us requests for umpires on an ad-hoc basis. The home team is responsible for the umpires for that game. If we have enough umpires available, and all other games are available, we will send an umpire to those game. These are known as “Cash Games” and are paid at the diamond by the home team. We will ensure this is emphasized at the category meetings this year and the teams are aware of this option.
Great questions Rick. We will definitely address these questions. And just so you know, we already have a process to handle your concerns!
P.S. We didn’t do a season end survey this year, as I never had time. I may do a reach-out to all umpires who have left the system to do an “exit interview” type survey. It would be good to know the big reasons umpires are leaving the system.
Let’s keep this list in mind when planning for 2016. Any further items to add? This year we also are combining with CSUA so it could be fun!
