Hoverboard – The future of umpiring?

Not too sure how a Hoverboard will meet the "Safety" requirements, but this looks like fun.  Imagine how many games a person could get in without breaking a sweat!

lol.  This actually was only between innings by the mentor....  It's been a pretty heated topic on the twitter universe..

HELP! I want to become an umpire but….

Q:

I played softball in high school and enjoyed it. I always thought Umpiring would be a neat way to get some outdoor exercise, earn a bit of extra cash, and be involved with people in the community. It has been a while though, 10 years since I last played softball and while I still know the rules, I would probably be a bit nervous to umpire my first game. After the classroom clinic , and the subsequent field practice, is there further help available?  Do you job shadow an experienced umpire? How does the process work after you are carded? Do you get assigned to games randomly and will I have to travel long distances to games? I am curious about what happens after the clinic.

2015 Off Season

Now that the season is over, we can all take time and reflect on the prior year and start planning for the next year.

Learning doesn't have to stop in the off-season, for that matter you may have more time to read up on that rule you need to learn.  Engage your fellow umpire with stories, questions, and banter!  That is what the discussion forums are for.  Don't know what a bunt vs a slap is?  Wish you could better understand Incidental Contact vs Obstruction/Interference?  The best way to better understand those grey areas is to discuss them and get ideas from other umpires.

There are tons of additional learning resources in the member only area.

Also, a plea to all umpires.  We need new photos for the website.  If you have any photos from 2015 you would like to share, please e-mail them and I will post them.  Send to webmaster@cmsua.ca

Cheers!

Geoff
