With so many great returning umpires who are early in their umpire progression, we would like to clarify how to progress further.

Level I and II are awarded based on local performance, and these levels can be decided by CMSUA Executive.

Level III and above are outside of CMSUA by either SB Alberta (for Lv 3), or SB Canada (for Lv 4/5)

For levels outside of CMSUA, you need to be evaluated at a specific tournament by the UIC. In order to attend these tournaments, you need to “Apply” in the previous year for next year’s tournament. There are sometimes last minute “fill-in” positions available if you miss the deadline. Let the executive know you are interested.

What if I don’t know my ball schedule for next year? How can I apply a year in advance.
      – CMSUA and ASUA recognize that many umpires have other obligations (play first, umpire second). If you are invited to a tournament (which is announced in March of each year), it is okay if you don’t accept if you have a conflict. Umpires sent to this level of tournament are expected to be available for the entire tournament.

Level III – U16A Provincials / GPLS Tournaments [if UIC/SB Alberta declares it an evaluator]
Level IV – U18 Canadians or U21 Canadians
      Level V – Senior Men’s Canadians

Have questions, please reply to this topic for the benefit of all umpires.
