Pitching Lane
Just a reminder that if the front foot is completely outside of the pitching lane, it can be an unfair advantage and illegal pitch should be enforced. This is one area where men's and elite ball typically pushes the boundary on.It is one of those calls that you should "bet your life" and be 100% sure it was illegal before calling it. Like all illegal pitches, you should give one warning per type of infraction prior to calling it.With the boys playing the girls this year in CMSA, we should not be allowing the boys any unfair advantage. Special attention should be paid to this rule.Rule 6-2 Sec 3 hIn the act of delivering the ball, the pitcher may take one step with the leading, non-pivot foot simultaneous with the release of the ball. - The pivot foot may be outside the twenty-four (24) inch width of the pitching plate due to momentum created during the drag.In NCAA Ball, they will actually chalk lines as a visual aid for the umpires and a reference point for the players.
